LAC Students WIN "Battle of the Books"

On Monday, June 2^nd, the first ever district-wide “Battle of the Books” was held at Salem High School. In January, 6^th-8^th grade students from Salem, Quinton, Lower Alloways Creek, Mannington, and Elsinboro schools began reading novels from a list of 35 book titles. On June 2^nd, their knowledge of the novels was put to the test. Each team was asked a series of questions pertaining to any one of the 35 books. In order to receive full credit for the answer, students had to know the title of the book, as well as the author. Teams from Lower Alloways Creek and Mannington went to the final round, with Lower Alloways Creek taking the championship and Mannington coming in 2^nd place. Salem placed third, with Quinton and Elsinboro placing 4^th and 5^th, respectively. This was a tightly contested race with only 1 question separating first and second place winners. The students from all five districts did a wonderful job, enjoyed reading, and are already looking forward to next year’s competition.
